Ingredients
- 6 ounces Whole Wheat Spaghetti
- 1 pound 93% Lean Ground Beef
- ½ cup Onion chopped
- 2 (14.5-ounce) cans No Salt Added Diced Tomatoes Italian style
- 2 (6-ounce) cans No Salt Added Tomato Paste
- 2 teaspoons Italian Seasoning
- 1 teaspoon Sugar
- Fresh Parsley chopped for garnish
Instructions
Cook the Spaghetti:
- Cook the pasta according to package directions without salt. Drain.
Make the Meat Sauce:
- Brown ground beef and onion in a large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat until beef is no longer pink. Stir in tomatoes, tomato paste, Italian seasoning, and sugar. Cook over medium-low heat with lid ajar for 20 minutes. Stir as needed.
Plate and Serve:
- Divide cooked pasta and sauce evenly between 4 bowls. Garnish with chopped parsley and shredded Parmesan Cheese if desired.
Slow Cooker Instructions:
- Brown ground beef and onion in a large skillet over medium-high heat until beef is no longer pink. Place cooked beef and onion in a slow cooker. Stir in tomatoes, tomato paste, Italian seasoning, and sugar. Cover and cook on LOW for 5 hours. Stir in 1½ cups hot water to slow cooker. Break spaghetti* in half and add to slow cooker. Cover and cook on HIGH for 1 hour. Stir before serving.*Whole wheat spaghetti does not do well in a slow cooker. It tends to get too mushy. Use regular spaghetti. Or, better yet, use thick spaghetti.
