Slow Cooker Caramelized Onions with Montreal Steak

If you love caramelized onion on your steak, you will love this recipe. Cooking the onions in a slow cooker gets dinner on the table without much effort. I have also added fresh mushrooms to the onions with great success. For a delicious variation, just add 6 cups sliced mushrooms and slow cook with the onions.

  • Slow Cooker
  • Indoor Grill

Ingredients
  

Onions

  • 6 cups Onion 2-3 large, sliced
  • 2 tablespoons Buttery Spread
  • 2 tablespoons Olive Oil
  • ½ teaspoon Kosher Salt
  • ½ teaspoon Black Pepper

Steak

  • 1 pound Beef Sirloin less than 1-inch thick, cut into 4 pieces
  • 1 tablespoon Montreal Steak Seasoning

Instructions
 

Slow Cook the Onions

  • Place all the onion ingredients in a slow cooker. Cook on high for 6 hours. Stir a few times during cooking process.

Grill the Steaks

  • 1-2 hours before you are ready to grill, sprinkle seasoning on both sides of steak. Refrigerate steaks uncovered.
    Preheat grill to medium-high.
    Cook steaks on hot grill for 2-3 minutes per side. Check for doneness.
    Rare: 115°F - 120°F
    Medium Rare: 120°F - 125°F
    Medium: 130°F - 135°F
    Medium Well: 140°F - 145°F
    Well Done: 150°F +
    Let steaks rest for 5 minutes.

Plate and Serve

  • Top each steak with the caramelized onions and serve.
